Benthic Basics, Water Quality and You

What do fortune-tellers and benthic scientists have in common? They can look into murky waters and see the past-present-and future! 

Get your hands mucky and have some fun unravelling the mysteries of benthic invertebrates at Wye Marsh. Learn what the little critters living in the deep dark sediments can tell us about the ecosystem’s health, water quality, and our place in the Web of Life.

During this dynamic two-hour workshop you will:

  • Capture specimens
  • Identify benthic invertebrates
  • Interpret water quality and more!

Where: Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre
When: Sunday, August 10 from 10am-12pm
Members: $17 per person + HST
Non-Members: $27 per person + HST
Who: Ages 10 and up. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult

What to bring: Sturdy footwear and/ or water shoes, layered clothing, This experience will be entirely outdoors, so please dress for the weather!

Please note: All canoeing equipment will be provided.

About the Instructor:
Alison is a Trent University student, entering her fourth year in Biology and Environmental Science. OBBN certified, with lots of experience in benthic macroinvertebrate collection and study, she is excited to share this knowledge with you!
