Accessibility at the Wye Marsh

New and innovative work by our maintenance staff and specialized equipment purchases has made Wye Marsh even more accessible to people with a disability.

What’s happening:

• The Bee House Trail has been re-graded & covered in limestone
• New doors have been installed on the Bee House. Our bees are busy as ever and the honey production is in full force!
• New canoe Docks were installed.
• To assist canoeists with mobility problems, a rolling mechanism between the docks, which holds our 10-man canoe, stable.
• A transfer seat is being designed to help as well.

Another exciting addition is a 6-seater golf cart that will enhance our visitor’s experience, funded by OTF. Now seniors and the disabled will be able to experience the marsh with fewer restrictions. The golf cart is electric, very quiet, fits down the Return Trail and out on the main walking berms.

We are also very pleased to announce that Ronald McDonald Charities donated $22,654, to Wye Marsh for the purchase of additional adaptive equipment: 2 Sitskiis, another all-terrain chair, a Landeeze and Rolleeze (bubble tire wheelchairs), an all-terrain walker, and 2 Kicksleds.
