Swan Sculpture Update
Since it’s unveiling on that rainy day in October of 2001, the beautiful Trumpeter Swan Sculpture down at Midland’s waterfront has weathered incredibly well and shows no signs of age. The 2700 pound bird constructed of stainless steel provided an influx of funding into our reintroduction program. Exciting news, there is still an opportunity for you or your company to be represented on the donor wall. The fundraising does continue with the Trumpeter Swan Sculpture Project and various levels of donor participation exist.

For more information about making a contribution please call (705) 526-7809. Donations will receive a tax receipt for the full amount of their donation and their name will be included on the donor wall.

Attention: Individuals, Families, Businesses and Groups - Choose your level of contribution and have the name of your family, company, school, or organization permanently inscribed on the Sculpture Donor Wall at the base of the Trumpeter Swan Sculpture. You will receive a tax receipt for the full amount of your donation.

The Trumpeter Swan Sculpture Project is a partnership between all members of our community and the surrounding areas, The Friends of the Wye Marsh, The Town of Midland and sponsored by Kindred Industries. The theme of this project is to emphasize the importance of the Reintroduction Program of the Trumpeter Swan in our area -- with our visions for the revitalization of the spirit of the people to the environment. After 200 years, Trumpeter Swans are once again gracing us with their presence in the Wye Valley and this is a wonderful way to celebrate their return.

The creator and visionary for this project is Hudson Leavens, a long time resident of Midland and a very good friend of the Wye Marsh... Hudson has always had the best interest of his community in the forefront.

Together, with Hudson's vision and Ron' s incredible artistic talent, they have created a wonderful, beautiful tribute to the Trumpeter Swans. Many people are involved at different levels of this project... participation and excitement is growing and you can be a part of it! The funds raised for this project will be done through the purchase of Donor Names permanently inscribed on the base of the sculpture. Private individuals, families, corporations and organizations can get involved and make this vision a reality.

The sculptor for the project is Ron Hunt, a local artist and creator of the "Gift to the Pope" given during this visit in 1984 among other artistic treasures.
