Wye Marsh Projects
Valley Watch
The
Wye Marsh Stewardship Department has created Valley Watch: a volunteer
network of concerned citizens to perform regular patrols of the Wye Valley.
This program consists of regular foot patrols of the valley area in order
to monitor and protect the marsh habitat and wildlife. By increasing the
visibility of the Wye Marsh, our goal is to decrease unauthorized motor
vehicle traffic and illegal dumping of garbage in the Wye Valley.
Funding received from Shell Canada has enabled us to equip our volunteers
with communications devices, geographic positioning stations, digital
cameras, binoculars, and species identification books.
Information provided by the volunteers is valuable to the protection
of the valley and also serves the secondary purpose of providing up-to-date
detailed records of animal and plant species, maintaining the bio-inventory
and monitoring our Species-At-Risk.
